Colm Quearney and myself formed Square Pegs seven years ago, and so it’s about time we released our self-titled debut album.
Over the course of the last four years we’ve been recording (here, there and everywhere) and we’ve finally finished mixing it so we’re going to launch it with a gig at Sin É, Dublin, on Friday, April 28.
A shared love of Chicago Blues, 50s R’n’B and the blues of New Orleans is the musical touchstone for Square Pegs. Known for our work with artists such as Van Morrison, Glen Hansard, Toots and the Maytals and many more, the band convene when we can between other musical commitments.
Square Pegs comprise myself, guitarist and vocalist Colm, Justin Carroll on organ, bassists Keith Duffy and Lorcan O’Dwyer, Conor Brady on guitar and numerous guests floating in and out.
The album, a cornucopia of goodtime blues, features classics such as Trouble in Mind, Big Legged Woman and original song Rise & Shine written by Colm.
The album is available on iTunes, Spotify, Deezer and all the usual places.
